Revered in both ancient Roman and ancient Greek mythology, the Myrtle (Myrtus communis) bush has long been the most well-known of Sardinian plants. While the leaves are mostly used for flavoring grilled meat, the berries can be used to make “mirto”, a distinctive, herbal after-dinner drink.
The plant is renowned for its antimicrobial, astringent, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties. Its elegantly narrow leaves and deep bluish purple berries can be seen throughout the forests and plains, as well as along the stunning coastline.
